As the weather warms and the days grow longer, spring brings with it the perfect opportunity to give your home the care it deserves.

As the weather warms and the days grow longer, spring brings with it the perfect opportunity to give your home the care it deserves. Establishing and sticking to a seasonal maintenance schedule is one of the smartest ways to preserve your investment, prevent costly issues, and keep everything running smoothly.
To help you stay on track, we’ve put together a handy spring maintenance checklist. While many of these tasks are DIY-friendly, don’t hesitate to contact Cocoon Home Services for anything that feels beyond your comfort zone.
Your Spring Maintenance Checklist
1. Test Smoke Alarms
Safety first! Clean and test all your smoke alarms to make sure they’re working properly. If it’s been a while, replace the batteries—even if the alarm hasn’t chirped yet.
2. Check GFCI Outlets
Test the Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) outlets in your kitchen, bathrooms, outdoor areas, and on your electrical panel. These outlets are essential for protecting against electrical shock.
3. Furnace Filter & Belt
Swap out your furnace filter to keep your air clean and your system efficient. While you’re at it, inspect the belt for wear. Not sure what to look for? A quick service call from a Cocoon Service Pro can save you from bigger problems later.
4. Roof Inspection
Inspect your roof from the ground to check for missing shingles or visible damage. If you feel comfortable and safe, take a closer look—or better yet, hire a contractor for a full inspection.
5. Windows & Tracks
Spring is a great time to clean all your windows and window tracks. Make sure weep holes aren’t blocked, and don’t forget the sliding doors! Use silicone spray to lubricate openers and track rollers for smooth operation.
6. Turn on Exterior Water Supplies
Reconnect the interior water supply to your hose bibs and outdoor faucets. IMPORTANT: Check for leaks right away to avoid water damage.
7. Clear Gutters & Downspouts
Remove debris from gutters and ensure downspouts and splash pads are directing water away from your home’s foundation. This helps prevent water damage and erosion.
8. Inspect Caulking
Check both interior and exterior caulking around windows, doors, and fixtures. Touch up or replace any deteriorating areas using approved caulking products for a tight seal.
Taking the time to check off these tasks each spring goes a long way to keeping your home safe, efficient, and in top shape. A little maintenance now can help you avoid major headaches down the line—so grab your gloves and get to it!
